Sorkel

Kate Freelander, sorkel tentacle, and Henry Foss.

Episode 2x04 - "Hero": In early 2009, as Kate Freelander continues her transition into becoming a Sanctuary Network team member, she shadows Henry Foss on a lower level of the facility as he does a scheduled feeding round of the Sanctuary's resident abnormals. As they walk through the main lab and pass by the glass wall of an enclosure with its interior completely filled by a visually obstructive thick dense fog, Kate strays from Henry's side to walk over and tap on the glass. Henry warns her otherwise, and she quickly learns why as a giant tentacle with suckers lands directly on the glass in front of her before lifting and disappearing.

Afterwards, during the evening that same day, while the Sanctuary team were away dealing with a loose coleanthropus, Kate used the sorkel to kill the gangster Constantine to protect her brother Tad Freelander. She lured Constantine and his henchman into the Sanctuary under the guise of giving Steve to Constantine to pay off Tad's debt. Instead, they stop in front of the sorkel's enclosure. After Constantine taps on the glass, Kate uses an electronic tablet to raise the glass window wall. Immediately the sorkel reachs its tentacle forward and snatchs Constantine off his feet, yanking him up and away into the enclosure out of sight. Kate quickly closes the glass window wall and uses the auto-assist mechanism to frighten off the henchman.

Sometime later that night, Helen Magnus came across Kate walking along an upper level hallway. Magnus commented about how Henry said that the sorkel wasn't hungry during its nighttime feeding and asked Kate if she knew anything about it or about how all of the security cameras suddenly malfunctioned in the main lab that evening at exactly 9:14 PM PST. Kate denied knowing the reasons why.

Season 3[]

Episode 3x12 - "Hangover": Over a year later in mid-2010, Will Zimmerman almost became the sorkel's lunch when Henry Foss became affected by the pinnepex and opened its enclosure as Will was walking through the main lab. The sorkel reached out and grabbed Will by his leg, knocking him to the ground. As Will fell and wrestled with the tentacle, he let go of the stunner he was carrying, and as the sorkel dragged him back towards the enclosure, Will couldn't reach the weapon and was dangerously separated from it. Will was then luckily rescued just in time by Bigfoot shooting the sorkel's tentacle with a stunner, causing the sorkel to let go of Will and recoil its tentacle back into its enclosure. Bigfoot then closed the protective glass window wall of the enclosure by using an interactive electronic command station panel nearby.
