The quetzalcoatl is a very elusive giant feathered serpent that lives in large cave systems and has severe sensitivity to direct sunlight.

History[]

Season 4[]

Episode 4x11 - "The Depths": In ancient times the Aztecs named a god after this creature. Followers of this serpent were said to be rewarded with unusual knowledge, strength, and health.

In 1909 Gregory Magnus mounted an expedition in order to find this creature. He returned from the expedition as the sole survivor and left strict instructions for others to leave this creature entirely alone.

Quetzalcoatl and Will Zimmerman

In 2011, a Specified Counter-Insurgency Unit team were sent to capture this creature. The Old City Sanctuary team learned of the operation and went to Bolivian Andes in order to prevent it. However, by the time Helen Magnus and Will Zimmerman arrived, the creature was already captured in a net by the SCIU team. Due to SCIU's recklessness in destroying the protective crystalline roof of the cave, it awakened the serpent, allowing it to escape. Unfortunately, a partial cave collapse also occurred, presumably killing the entire SCIU team, while also injuring and trapping Magnus and Will. During their exploration to find a way to escape, they came across "magic water".

Soon after ingesting this water, they both realized that it was actually this special kind of water that flowed through the Quetzalcoatl's habitat, not the Quetzalcoatl itself, that gave whoever drank it advanced healing, knowledge, and strength. They also learned that the effects of the water are only temporary, and when the effects wear off, the drinker can experience withdrawal symptoms. When Magnus returned to the source to refill the bottle with special water, she found that the water was infused with a unique mineral; the true origin of their enhanced abilities.

Notes[]

  • The Quetzalcoatl resembles a basilisk. This may indicate a relationship between these two species but it has never been confirmed or mentioned.
