Stargate Atlantis is an American science fiction series and a television spin-off of Roland Emmerich's 1994 film Stargate and Stargate SG-1.

A number of actors from the show have appeared on Sanctuary, most importantly of course Amanda Tapping, who played Samantha Carter on Stargate Atlantis, Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Universe. As a matter of fact, Tapping discontinued her work as a regular on Atlantis to focus on Sanctuary.

Other actors appearing in both shows include Christopher Heyerdahl, Ryan Robbins, David Hewlett, Kavan Smith, Chuck Campbell, Dan Shea, David (Dan) Joffre, Dan Payne, Sheri Noel, Laura Mennell, David Richmond-Peck, Panou, David Nykl, Jonathon Young, Mark Gibbon, Agam Darshi, Brenda McDonald, Christopher Gauthier, Sean Tyson, Nicole Muñoz, Colin Cunningham, Richard Zeman, Michael Shanks, Aleks Paunovic, Steve Archer, Nimet Kanji, Paul McGillion, Ronald Selmour, Tobias Slezak, Gary Jones, Peter Flemming, Martin Christopher, Christian Sloan, Allison Hossack, Adrian Hough, Chris Nowland, Pascale Hutton, Nels Lennarson, Jody Thompson, Sean Rogerson, David Milchard, Lara Gilchrist, Kwesi Ameyaw, Caroline Cave, Brent Stait, Richard Stroh, Peter Wingfield, Vincent Gale, Ian Tracey, Anne Marie DeLuise, Sarah Strange, Katherine Isabelle, Jim Byrnes, Jason Schombing, Kirsten Robek, Matthew Walker, and Morris Chapdelaine.

Martin Wood, the director of the original eight Sanctuary webisodes, previously worked as a director for Stargate. Peter DeLuise, Damian Kindler, and Alan McCullough have also written for the series.

An obvious in-joke referring to Stargate appears in the episode "Edward": one of the creatures the abnormal Edward Meyers draws is a Wraith, a race that has made a number of appearances on Stargate Atlantis.[1]

The fifth season of Atlantis aired alongside Sanctuary's first season.
